Milltek Sport Enters Nürburgring N24 Once Again in 2018

Milltek Sport Enters Nürburgring N24 Once Again in 2018British exhaust manufacturer Milltek Sport has announced that it will once again to enter a team in the most gruelling race in motorsport - the 24 hour endurance race at the fabled Nürburgring – or N24, as it is more popularly known.

The firm has had great success at this event in the past. From a hard-fought finish and respectable class placing in 2016 with its Fiesta, followed by a class podium with the more accomplished TMG Toyota GT-86 in 2017, the team has had its fair share of successes, despite its relatively scant time campaigning this most unique of motorsport challenges.

This year sees a refreshed version of the GT-86 coming out to play once again, but now sporting a superior, sequential gearbox, it’s quite possible that all those marginally quicker changes might just make a difference around the literally ever-changing vista of the ‘Green Hell’. Entering the hard-fought SP3 class once again, competition will be fierce, but Milltek also has a seasoned driver line-up to fall back on.

The father and son duo of Werner and Mortiz Gusenbauer will be joined by Swiss driver Manuel Amweg who competed in VLN last year in another, rival GT86. All have form at the Ring – and all have had precious seat time in the Toyota. In addition, a fourth driver will be added to the team nearer the date of the race. With clearly a talented quartet at its disposal, many are wondering if this might finally be Milltek’s year – not least of all Managing Director, Steve Pound.

‘The N24 is always the favourite race meeting in our entire global motorsport calendar,” he explained. “It may bring a completely different set of challenges, due to the sheer amount of driving – and how punishing the circuit is, but we’ve learned an awful lot from our previous experience with the GT86 Cup cars – and our own results here, so if we can keep the car in one piece, I really believe that we have the driver and team line-up to hopefully challenge for a win in the SP3 class this time around.”

Backed by Ravenol Oils, Nigrin Car Care, and having switched to Dunlop rubber for this years campaign, the is feeling confident about its prospects – and thanks to recently opening the new Milltek Test Centre right next door to the circuit, giving the team access to valuable set-up and testing sessions, don’t bet against this British-backed team bagging perhaps another trophy at this year’s event.
