MILLTEK SPORT SPONSORSHIP HELPS AUTOMETRIX TRACK DAY TO HUGE SUCCESS
Challenging Croft venue tests performance drivers to the full - and provides unique Milltek product preview.
75 drivers took part in one of the most successful track days held at the demanding 2.1 mile Croft circuit near Darlington - venue for some of the closest BTCC racing in recent years. Organised by Autometrix - publishers of VW Driver and Audi Driver - the track day also drew some 1000 spectators and specialist trade support on April 29th. Sponsored by Milltek Sport, who have developed a specialist range of performance exhausts alongside VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group), the event also saw both the Milltek Audi and Porsche Cayman development vehicles present allowing visitors a unique preview of forthcoming product introductions.
Said Milltek Sport Chief Executive Phil Millington, "Croft again proved an ideal venue for the Autometrix Track Day, demanding high levels of skill from participants but also allowing drivers to extract the maximum performance from their cars. With both our Audi RS4 4.2 litre V8 and Porsche Cayman S present, we were not only able to show track day participants and drivers our latest exhaust designs but also demonstrate them on Croft Circuit. Our development drivers were able to give track rides that clearly demonstrated the smooth and increased power delivery our exhaust systems provide, while everyone trackside will have realised that this is not at the expense of refinement or excessive noise. We are very satisfied with the positive response and have been happy to continue our association with Autometrix following sponsorship of the Croft event in 2005."
Although originally designated as an exclusive VW/Audi track day, such was the interest that the scope was widened to include other marques. This saw high performance vehicles as TVR, Lotus, Porsche, BMW and AMG Mercedes on track, together with Westfield, Caterham, Ford, Renault and a host of Audi and SEAT models. Organisers said that general driving standards were very high, with track day etiquette well observed. The family nature of the event was epitomised by the low speed parade laps, allowing everyone a taste of the Croft experience.
Concluded Phil Millington, "Being associated with such a successful event is very pleasing and from the Milltek perspective the opportunity to not only show and demonstrate the quality of our products but also to receive owner feedback has again proved invaluable. Opening up the event to other performance marques was a real bonus, since many drivers who may only have heard about us before were now able to experience the range at first hand."
