Litchfield / Powerstation's Subaru wins Europe's first Time Attack series
The Time Attack series finally roared into Europe in 2006 after being a huge success in Japan and America. This circuit based event sees the best tuned cars in Europe compete head to head over single timed lap. The series took place over 5 rounds; Rockingham, Silverstone (twice), knockhill and the grand final at Donington Park. The Litchfield and Powerstation team were one of only a few teams that competed at every round over the last 6 months.
With a relatively open rulebook the cars competing were some of the most extreme and professionally finished examples to be found anywhere in the world. There was a huge diversity in the competitors ranged from 700bhp+ Nissan Skylines to an 840bhp Short Wheel based Mitsubishi Evo. Competitors arrived from across Europe including Ireland, Holland and Greece.
The Litchfield Imports and Powerstation teams' joint entry was a 600bhp version of their Subaru Impreza Type-25. Based on the Japanese only motor sport derived Spec C, the car was fitted with a FIA approved roll cage, race 3-way adjustable AST suspension, a racing exhaust system provided by Milltek Sport, and an engine jointly developed with Cosworth. The car was expertly driven all year by rising GT star Phil Keen.
The tense final battle took place in front of packed stands on Donington Park's 1.9mile National circuit. Despite running less power than the main Mitsubishi rivals the Subaru's superior chassis showed through with a time of 1:17:025 beating the nearest rival by 1.217secs and taking the Championship victory. A superb result given the limited setup time, traffic and especially as the cars must run on road legal tyres. The Subaru's impressive laptime also managed to beat all of the open wheel competitors (by over 0.8sec) who were running lightweight Atoms and turbo charged Daxs.
It has been a very successful period for the Litchfield/Powerstation team as earlier in the month they took victories, for the second year running, in the 2006 Tuner GP. Held at Snetteron circuit the wins used their critically acclaimed performance Subaru range and not only dominating the saloon car classes but also comfortably won the MPV/4x4 class with their Subaru Forester STI.
The team looks forward to more motor sport success in 2007.
Litchfield Imports website features write-ups and videos from each round and will shortly be updated with a video of the final.
